Las Vegas, 1909 & 1910

     On July 1, 1909 Clark County was formed from the southern portion of Lincoln County. On March 16, 1911 a legislative bill was signed incorporating Las Vegas, which provided for a mayor and a board of four county commissioners. This board became responsible for a number of small school districts in Clark County, and for the formation of new ones, and the abolishment or consolidation of others.

Fifth Street School

    On January 15, 1910, a bond election was held and passed for the amount of $30,000 to build a new grammar school on Fourth Street. The school opened in October, 1911. The building faced Fourth Street, and was known as the Fifth Street School. However, the official name was Las Vegas Grammar School.
