In 1953, a $5,750,000 bond issue built 8 elementary schools, 1 junior high school, 1 high school (Rancho High School) and 1 junior high school / senior high school (Indian Springs). This issue included $750,000 for a portion of the Henderson High School (Basic HS). Prior to the 1953 county wide bond issue, all Henderson School District buildings were funded by Basic Magnesium Inc. and Federal grants. The Basic High School built in 1954 was later renamed Burkholder Middle School when the new Basic High School was built in 1971. Henderson voters also approved a separate $560,000 issue that was used to build the Park Village School, a K-6 school which opened in October 1955. The school was later renamed the Robert Taylor Elementary School. Click on the image to view a larger size.
